Biography

Since I was a little kid I am addicted to the massive sounds of heavy metal music. My father used to listen to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and probably this was the igniting spark for me to do the deep dive in this kind of music.

So at the age of 7 or 8 I decided to become a rock star, no matter what… it was clear for me that real rock stars have to have the ability of posing on and off stage so I trained posing with a tennis racket on the bed, which was my ‘stage’.

By continuing with this behavior my parents decided to help me to approach my goal ‘rock star’ with a little more seriousness and bought me a western guitar for Christmas. A western guitar… I was happy…

Bad thing was that no matter what I did with this string monster, this was not the sound I wanted to hear… so my dad gave me a book to learn the basics… It was a jazz guitar book… so I surrendered playing guitar and continued improving my posing.

At the age of 16 I gave it another try as I was able to start a 3-week school internship in a music store. The guys there helped me finding the first quick steps into MY kind of music by teaching me the magic of an electric guitar called power chord. I was amazed. So I tried to play along my new Heroes, Iron Maiden and their album Live After Death. My parents were very understanding these years… thanks mum and dad!

This upcoming career ended very soon, because a young man has to also find a way to make money, get a decent job and step into life… so I became a miner. Every now and then I still grabbed the guitar, but the passion for this instrument was fading away more and more.

But not for heavy metal itself.

I visited concerts, saw my heroes live and kept the candle burning… Names? Too many to count… Metallica, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, WASP, Alice Cooper, and: White Skull… In 2000 I was studying production technologies in Lemgo/GER as I bought the recent german Metal Hammer magazine which came always with a promo CD of actual bands. One song was really outstanding and caught me right from the beginning: The Roman Empire by White Skull… powerful, catchy, fast and loud… damn, I loved it. So I ordered the album and looked for concerts. Unfortunately, I saw that the singer just left the band…

Nevertheless, I continued my professional career as an engineer and IT guy. This forced me to sit in front of a computer, mostly more than 10 hours a day… so it came that I needed a hobby to balance this out a bit. Music… and now, since I was 40 years old already with a serious and more stable approach: I counted my fingers, decided that 4 strings are enough, bought a bass guitar and an amplifier and entered a music school… and met Wilhelm, my teacher.

For three and a half years he thought me everything I needed, the basics, the theory, the listening, all the hard-to-play stuff… but I told him: I only do this for myself. I will NEVER play in a band or enter a stage. NEVER! After these years he suggested me to find a band… just to give it a try… just to cover some songs… and I did. I entered the rehearsal room of a cool little rock cover band and got to my first trial period. It was a cool experience… but now I wanted MOOORE! Playing the bass became a passion and there is basically no day without playing and practicing.

Learning that the bass is a very massive instrument in the band’s context, I began to color the songs in a way, I liked and started developing my style. I also stepped into other music genres. Classic (Bach), all kind of metal, rock, r’n’b, jazz, reggae, funk.

At the same time, a local metal band was looking for a bass player, so I applied. And they gave me the chance. During those years I improved my play and started writing my own songs. And I learned that there is never an end of learning, studying and improving the own style and trying to find the sounds that fits the band the most.

Beside making music and improving my deeptone experience, this band asked me to take care of our Facebook page. Bad thing, you have to have an account yourself to become the admin of another page. So I started creating my own profile. Not that easy… let’s start with adding some pictures and mention my favourite bands: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motörhead, …and White Skull. I cannot describe how happy I was to read, that Federica “Sister” De Boni re-joined the band. I really like the sound of these Italian power metal band, so I asked Fede`s friendship on Facebook. After long talks about music and life itself and after realizing how much we have in common, we decided to move in together in a little hideout in Northern Germany.

Since I was blessed to share the stage with many great and very experienced musicians I (of course) look forward to continue the way of the deep tunes… to give the metal bass my voice, my color, my feelings.

Therefor you can contact me when you are looking for studio or live support or band projects.
